About

Hi, my name is Nick Heaphy and I am a Christchurch, New Zealand based art photographer (art photographer because I don't like the term amateur photographer but I don't make a living taking photos so am not a professional photographer... but it's all just semantics)

In April 2009 I purchased a Canon iPF5000. It was a tossup between a printer or a new camera. My thought process was that a new camera would probably not improve my photography, sure I might be able to get wider angle with a full frame sensor, or I might be able to enlarge further, but ultimately these were all technical improvements—nothing about a new camera would aesthetically improve the images that I produced. What I hoped would improve my photography was producing a print and actually hanging it on the wall. This would force me to live with my photography, see if I had captured what I set out to, see how the image effected my mood when it was viewed, see how it effected others when they visited.

In order to thinly justify the purchase of what was a rather expensive printer I figured that I could also offer fine art printing to fellow photographers at basically what amounts to my cost price for the printing. My goal is to offer an affordable boutique fine art digital printing service to the photographic community. This means that I keep ink running through the printer (an important part of a large format printer) and hopefully more people will see their images in print and more photographic exhibitions will be held.

As my job takes me all over the country, often with little advanced warning I may be unavailable until the weekend to conduct the printing, but I will email you if this occurs.
